Virginia, owner of Elysium Massage and Spa, is a Tacoma native and graduate of Ashmead School of Massage. At Ashmead she participated in the Spa Program in addition to their traditional massage program. Both programs were completed in August of 2007 with Honors. Virginia took part in the Student Clinic and had the privilege of also participating in the Day Spa Clinic where she received her hands on experience. She has worked on children as young as fourteen to adults ninety-six years in age. Virginia is trained in Swedish Massage for relaxation, deep tissue, pregnancy and treatment (auto or athletic injury and chronic problem areas) Elysium’s spa treatmens are designed to incorporate the skill of massage with the application of natural healing substances such as pure, high quality essential oils, parafango, Black Baltic mud, shea butter, seaweed, mineral rich sea salts, and hot stones. Aromatherapy and essential oils are used throughout her spa treatments. Massage Therapy Essential Oils are oils that have been extracted through steam
distillation from a number of aromatic plants. Essential oils
are used to affect a person’s limbic system, which focuses on
a part of the brain used in our fight or flight reflex. A favorite
book of Virginia’s is Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit by Gabriel
Mojay, where the use of essential oils is described beautifully.
Mojay says “Althought they are the tools of a gentle therapy,
essential oils have the power to reach deep into the psyche and
to both relax the mind and uplift the Spirit.” Together, the client
and the practitioner can form a combination of essential oils
in a carrier oil for an aromatic massage experience. Parafango is a relaxing combination of
Italian mud and paraffin was, which has superior heat retention
capabilities that have been utilized since the 1950’s in Germany
for arthritic pain and chronic muscle conditions. Salt Glow is an exfoliating and deep cleansing
treatment for the skin. Using pure sea salts to remove inpurities,
dead skin cells, and to stimulate circulation. Afterwards, superb
radiance! Hot Stone treatments utilize nature’s own
tool, of a variety of naturally shaped and polished stones. These
stones are heated in water and allow for a heat penetrating massage.
This method decreases tension and increases circulation and deep
relaxation. Black Baltic Mud Wrap, a mud from the Baltic
Sea, which has been found to be very rich in minerals and micronutrients.
It has detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, and remineralizing properties,
which deepens muscle relaxation. Shea Butter Wrap uses pure, melted shea
butter and a warm cocoon wrap to deeply hydrate and rejuvenate
the skin. Clinical trials have shown that shea butter helps to
protect skin from climate and UV aggressions, prevent wrinkle
formation, and soothe and hydrate irritated skin. Seaweed Wrap is often marketed as a “weight
loss wrap” due to is ability to boost the body’s metabolism. In
addition to a metabolic boost, this wrap also detoxifies, improves
circulation and rejuvenates the skin’s surface.
